“The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting” Milan Kundera. We need to be constant participants in the making of history.

History provides us with a collective memory, it gives us a sense of connection to place, time and community. Without a shadow of our past, without reference to where we have been makes it difficult to plan where we are going. 500 year history of the common good gives us reference to how much of our land has been stolen, why the commons was created and why it is important to defend it. As Tom Johnston warns. “A democracy ignorant of the past is not qualified either to analyse the present or to shape the future”
The documentation of our project is part of the history making we leave for future generations and all the better we write it ourselves.
